I've even been able to rehabilitate countless noisy photos, some as old as ~2006. Lightroom's new Denoise feature is exceptionally good. Lightroom is hard to beat in that regard. I bought the full Affinity suite with the intent of seeing if it could replace Lightroom. But Adobe has continued to add new features in the last couple of years that have kept me from jumping ship.īut Affinity does not have a catalog system. But their upgrades aren't cheap (and I think if you skip any major upgrades I think you'll be paying 'new' prices, or nearly so). I used Capture One for a couple of years. Over time, the cost probably works out to be similar to the old system, where you'd pay maybe ~$300 to "own" the software (but then still have to pay for upgrades every couple of years anyway).Ĭapture One is also around $300, if you prefer an up front purchase without a subscription. If not, you can always cancel and not be out a huge chunk of money. And if you use it regularly, or even occasionally, it's very much worth it. (Especially when compared to the countless minor applications with hefty subscriptions).įor $10, you have full access to Lightroom and Photoshop. I dislike subscription models on principle, but this provides good value for the money. But it's one of the few subscriptions that I'm okay with. You can do a bunch of 7-day trial for multiple times and that can get through all your photos but again, for me sometimes I have the urge to learn Lr+Ps at random day/time (because of day job) so I'll keep the subscription.Īlso, if you are serious about this, you can meet people with same mindset and they are willing to share the subscription like my case. I think it's worth to learn Adobe rather than other app in the long term and paying money for subscription is a huge motivation. I have to emphasize that Lr+Ps is very powerful and used by profressionals. If you are a student, the photography plan ($10/month) which includes Photoshop and Adobe Stock is very helpful and a must for intermediate level up photographer. You can split LrC and Lr for 4 people (2 licenses per each product) and it would bring down to $2.5. With subscription, Lr/LrC can be downloaded and used by 2 computers/PCs so it would bring the cost down by $5. Please direct non-lightroom topics to the most appropriate of the following!
